Lisa Feldman Barrett, PhD

Lisa Feldman Barrett is a University Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Northeastern University, where she is director of the Interdisciplinary Affective Science Laboratory. Barrett received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Waterloo, in Ontario, Canada, and completed a Clinical Internship at the University of Manitoba Medical School. Dr. Barrett’s research focuses on the nature of emotion from the perspectives of both psychology and neuroscience, and takes inspiration from anthropology, philosophy, and linguistics.

Professor Barrett is the author of the forthcoming book How Emotions Are Made: The New Science of the Mind and Brain, and has edited and contributed to numerous textbooks including, The Psychological Construction of Emotion, The Mind in Context, Handbook of Emotions, The Wisdom in Feeling: Psychological Processes in Emotional Intelligence, and Emotion and Consciousness. Along with James Russell, she is the founding editor-in-chief of the journal Emotion Review.
