Mind over Matter: Unlocking the Secrets of the Spiritual Brain

A Presentation by Mario Beauregard, Ph.D. April 25, 2007

Receiving international media coverage for his work on the effects of consciousness and volition on the emotional brain and the neural correlates of the mystical experience in Carmelite nuns, Dr. Mario Beauregard will present a nonmaterialist view of the relationships between mind, consciousness, and brain based upon various lines of scientific evidence set forth in his upcoming book. He will also discuss the results of his latest brain imaging studies regarding the neural underpinnings of unconditional love and mystical experience and their general implications for our evolving understanding of this emerging field.

An associate researcher at the Departments of Psychology and Radiology as well as the Neuroscience Research Center at the University of Montreal, Dr. Mario Beauregard has completed two postdoctoral fellowships in experimental neuropsychology and is the author of over 100 scientific publications in the fields of neuroscience, psychology, and psychiatry. Selected by World Media Net as one of the “One hundred pioneers of the 21st century,” he is the editor and co-author of Consciousness, Emotional Self-Regulation and the Brain. His latest project pairs him with science writer Denyse O’Leary for the publication of his upcoming popular book titled The Spiritual Brain.
